Why spend money on a round trip flight to Munich, when you can get a gourmet Bavarian meal at The Pines Lakefront? The custom, made-to-order menu gives patrons an opportunity to savor the flavors of authentic German fare.

One of the most popular items on the menu is the Weinerschnitzel. It’s a veal cutlet that’s pounded thinly by hand, then breaded and pan-fried to perfection. This sincerely is Southern California’s most authentic Oktoberfest, because it takes pride in being the closest thing to the original one. In fact, year after year it always ranks as one of the top 10 best Oktoberfest celebrations in America! Hence, Big Bear Lake is situated in an alpine setting with miles of pine trees, mountains, and a town-square village that reflects the scenery of the Bavarian Alps of Germany. Other key factors that continuously puts Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest high on the charts is it brings bands direct from Bavaria. It serves a variety of beer imported from Germany. Dance troupes perform customary dances. The sausages are from a German butcher in Los Angeles, and fresh apple strudel is delivered weekly from a German bakery in Newport Beach! Hence this is why it stays true to its German roots.

Real German Bands Take Center Stage at Oktoberfest

This year, Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest steps up its game with an entertainment lineup that brings more Bavarian-style oomph, or in musical terms oom-pah-pah, than ever before. The 49thAnnual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest features four different bands from Germany. Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest’s audience is treated with a unique blend of traditional German polkas, sing-alongs and of course the Chicken Dance. Save room for desert because the fresh German apple strudel with warm vanilla sauce drizzled on top is a dream come true for taste buds! Yum!!!

Contests Enhance the Fun-Filled Atmosphere

Fun competitions and contests at Oktoberfest include log sawing, stein holding, shoot & yodel, a version of beer pong, and stein carrying. Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest – Genuine German Music

July 5, 2019 By Admin1 Leave a Comment

Infectious Bavarian Tunes by Four German Bands Fill Big Bear’s Fall Months

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest provides great entertainment again this year. It brings more Bavarian-style music than ever before, which means you should expect plenty of fun and dancing! The 49thAnnual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest features four different bands direct from Germany. This all happens in a nine-weekend stretch, which spans from September 7 to November 2, 2019. This marks the first-time ever that Southern California’s number-one-rated Oktoberfest will have four different German bands perform live in the same season. There is a blend of traditional German polkas, sing-alongs and of course the Chicken Dance. Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest also gets its fair share of classic rock covers, country hits and today’s dance favorites. All four German bands help create the same vibe and pageantry of the original Bavarian Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.

Franken Power Express

Franken Power Express is the first German band slated to take the stage at the 49thAnnual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest. They come direct from Hammelburg, Germany. The energy of this band is certain to stir up a lively atmosphere. They perform  September 14-15 and September 21-22.

Frankenbellen Express

The next two weekends Frankenrebellen Express performs September 28-29 and October 4-5. This band that hails from the Franconia region of Bavaria sings with thick German accents and delivers a fun-style of party music.Big Bear Events

Die Bohmische Straßenmusikanten

Die Bohmische Straßenmusikanten is from eastern Bavaria. They bring a very unique style of Bohemian brass music during Oktoberfest’s peak weekends October 12-13 and October 19-20. This band combines street music, fast-paced rhythms, Bavarian folk standards and  pop hits.

Goldeisen & The Express Band

Goldeisen is a nine-piece band. They also reside in Bavaria, so you should expect even more great music that comes from this region. It was by by popular demand to get these guys to return. Expect people to get onto the dance floor when this band plays its upbeat jams. They play on October 26-27 and at Oktoberfest’s special encore event Saturday, November 2. The Express Band, Southern California’s premier German band performs the first weekend September 7-8.

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest delivers a genuine Bavarian-style celebration with alpine scenery and heritage

This German festival sincerely reflects the spirit of the original Oktoberfest. It even serves the very same beer poured at Munich’s Oktoberfest! There are two full service bars located inside the Convention Center and four different beer gardens outside. Beer lovers should check out the Craft Haus, which provides a variety of micro brews and craft beer. The food is very authentic to German tradition, too. The bratwurst and knockwurst is from a German butcher in Los Angeles, and fresh apple strudel and pretzels are delivered weekly from a German bakery!

Contests, Competitions and Good Times

Fun competitions and contests at Oktoberfest include log sawing, stein carrying, shoot & yodel, a version of beer pong, and stein holding. Children’s fun and games include kiddy mug holding matches and a kids’ play area with five different giant inflatables. Dance troupes perform customary dances, and guests get into the action by flapping their arms and clucking away to the Chicken Dance.

The 49th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest begins Saturday, September 7, and then runs for nine weekends (Sat. & Sun.). It ends Saturday, November 2, 2019. The weekend festivities takes place at Big Bear Lake Convention Center, located at 42900 Big Bear Blvd. in Big Bear Lake. Oktoberfest kicks off with American’s Hero weekend on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8.  All past and present military, fire fighters and law enforcement get free admission. Tickets to all 2019 dates go on sale Thursday, August 1, 2019. Mountain Transit provides a trolley service on Saturdays and Sundays to conveniently get around town with ease.Big Bear Trolley, Mountains, Ski Resorts

Big Bear Trolley is an ideal way to visit Big Bear’s attractions while leaving the driving to a professional driver. Visitors are encouraged to catch a ride on Big Bear Trolley to experience the pleasure and sheer fun of getting around Big Bear. Also, this means no driving, which is a blessing in itself.

The comfy and spacious 30-passenger trolley takes commuters to seven different points of interest. The fixed route is every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The trolley also operates on holidays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The trolley’s main hub is The Lodge at Big Bear Lake in Big Bear Lake Village. The other six pick-up and drop-off locations include, The Copper Q (Big Bear Lake Village), Snow Summit, Best Western Big Bear Chateau, Bear Mountain, Big Bear Alpine Zoo and Interlaken Shopping Center (Vons Grocery Store). These stops along the route are identified with the Mountain Transit Big Bear Trolley logo.

Big Bear Trolley is especially convenient for skiers and snowboarders to get to and from the mountain resorts. The two Village locations provide a central point to hop aboard for a quick ride to the ski areas. The best part is the Big Bear Trolley drops passengers right at the base of the mountain, which means no parking hassles or excessive walking to get to the ski resort. This service naturally provides skiers and snowboarders more time on the slopes.

The trolley even comes equipped with automatic tire chains at the flip of a switch, making it operational during snowstorms. An old-fashioned trolley bell adds to the old-time experience; while the modern amenities of stereo sound and public address system embellish the environment. TARZAN BOAT – NEW FLOATING WATERPARK ON BIG BEAR LAKE

April 27, 2018 By Admin1 Leave a Comment

Unique, Floating Waterpark is the First of Its Kind on the West Coast

This summer Captain John’s Fawn Harbor and Marina introduces a new attraction on Big Bear Lake not seen anywhere else on the West Coast. It’s called Tarzan Boat, a jungle-themed, floating waterpark that features six different stimulating ways get a wet fix.

“Tarzan Boat is not a typical nautical vessel by any means,” said Serena Saunders, owner of Captain John’s Fawn Harbor and Marina. “It’s a mobile, floating water park that features a variety of ways to get your kicks on the lake.”

Features include Monkey Jump, a six-foot high platform, and Gorilla Jump, a 12-foot high platform. Both allow participants to free fall into the lake. There are two Olympic-grade trampolines on board, Monkey Bounce and Gorilla Bounce. Participants get airborne on these trampolines before splashing into the water. The Gorilla Bounce can launch jumpers up to 20 feet above the water’s surface. The Tarzan Swing, which is accessed from the 12-foot platform, adds to the excitement. It’s a rope swing that extends over the lake to give participants the opportunity to swing high above the water like Tarzan. Rounding off the boat’s attractions is the Jungle Slide. This curvy, tube slide, which is also accessed from the 12-foot platform, shoots people out like a rocket into the water. Two ladders on each side of the vessel provide easy entrance back onto the bow deck so swimmers can access unlimited water fun.

“Tarzan Boat will be the hot spot on Big Bear Lake this summer for families, couples and groups,” added Saunders. “It provides continuous fun for all ages, which naturally fits our theme here at Captain John’s.”Floating waterpark in Big Bear LakeTarzan Boat, The Floating Waterpark

Safety First

The floating waterpark anchors approximately 100 yards from Captain John’s Fawn Harbor and Marina, adjacent to the town of Fawnskin on the north shore. The water depth is 10 to 12 feet at the anchor point. An electric, jungle-safari cruiser shuttles guests from the marina docks every hour on the hour.

On the shuttle ride over, marina staff addresses Tarzan Boat’s safety rules to the guests. Two fully certified lifeguards are on board the Tarzan Boat at all times, and the boat comes equipped with life jackets for every person on board. A paying adult must accompany participants 12 years of age and under. Also, anyone 12 years and under must pass a swim test before playing on the boat’s features, and must wear a life jacket at all times. Tarzan Boat can accommodate up to 30 people at a time. Headfirst diving or flipping is not allowed. However, jumping, 360-degree twists, and cannonballs are all permitted.

Here’s How to Book Your Day of Fun Aboard the Tarzan Boat

Tarzan Boat is scheduled to open to the public Saturday, May 27. It will remain open through September. Hours of operation are daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with multiple sessions throughout the day. General admission pricing is per person, and can either be booked in advance or by walk-in. Rates are $25 for one hour, $40 for two hours, $50 for three hours, and $60 for four hours.
